A working party is called up to swap old ammo out of magazines staged fully-loaded in footlockers for years. Scores of the 30-round mags — many brand-new — had fatigued springs, rendering them useless.
Two decades of “Bang, Bang, Click.”
Through 20+ years in the Marines, founder Gunnery Sergeant Rob August repeatedly encountered spring fatigue in magazines kept fully loaded at all times. The question stuck: “There’s gotta be a better way!”
A movable sleeve
The answer: a magazine with a movable sleeve that relaxes spring tension during storage or lengthy inactivity, yet can be put into action instantly with full spring power.
Shop prototypes & two U.S. patents
After several prototypes made in the shop, the team applied for and received two patents from the U.S. Patent Office — Nos. 10,527,374 and 10,690,427.
Polymer, simulation, and the range
3D-printed prototypes resolved the translation from metal to polymer. Magazine dynamics were tested with computer simulation, then run through their paces on a live range. A third U.S. patent is pending.
Injection-molded in bulk
Only after being proven efficient and effective were ASF Magazines manufactured in bulk using the injection-molding process — in Duramide™ PA66 nylon polymer.
